The Villa Marcelle, Terra Basse, Tremolat, Dordogne, France
Thank you for your enquiry concerning our house at Tremolat. The following is some information about the
area, Tremolat village and the house.
The region of the Dordogne is rich in history, culture and cuisine. It is also blessed with some of the most beautiful countryside in France. Whatever your particular reason to visit the Dordogne; the medieval towns, prehistoric sites, recreation facilities, or for just the ability to walk in unspoiled countryside, you will find sufficient of each for a lifetime of visits.
The local area contains the cities of Bergerac, Sarlat and Perigueux and other towns of immense historical and architectural interest. The smaller villages are worth visiting for their diverse charm. The countryside around Tremolat is hilly, wooded and very under-populated by UK standards. It provides the atmosphere redolent of a former age.
The village of Tremolat is the quintessential French medieval village (it was the setting for Charbrols film, Le Boucher). The square has on one side the gaunt towered 15th century church that was used for both worship and protection. The village has a range of shops including a cafι/tabac, boulangerie, alimentation and a choice of restaurants including the renowned village logis. The Basin Nautique International provides a variety of water sports including skiing, swimming and canoeing. Cycle hire, tennis, riding and golf are also available from the village. Supermarkets are established in the local town in Le Bugue (12 km distance).
The House
The Villa Marcelle is situated high above the River Dordogne, 1 km from the village centre. The villa is approached down a green lane, winding through the steep wooded hillside above the village. Set in a half acre of orchard, the villa has panoramic views. Steep steps lead down to the house that may be difficult for some guests.

BOOKING CONDITIONS
1
The
property known as Villa Marcelle (the
Property) is offered for holiday rental subject to
confirmation by A F V and R E
Pooley (the Owner) to the renter
(the Client).
2 To reserve the Property, the Client should complete
and sign the Booking Form and return it together with payment of the initial
non-refundable deposit (25% of the total rent due). Following receipt of the Booking Form and deposit, the Owner will
send a confirmation invoice and statement.
This is the formal acceptance of the booking.
3 The balance of the rent, together with the security
deposit (see Clause 4) is payable not less than eight weeks before the start of
the rental period. If payment is not
received by the due date, the Owner reserves the right to give notice in writing
that the reservation is cancelled. The
Client will remain liable to pay the balance of the rent unless the Owner is
able to re-let the Property. In this
event, Clause 6 of these Booking Conditions will apply. Reservations made within eight weeks of the
start of the rental period require full payment at the time of booking.
4 A security deposit of £25 for every week or part week of
the rental period is required in case of, for example, damage to the property
or its contents. However, the sum
reserved by this clause shall not limit the Clients liability to the
Owner. The Owner will account to the
Client for the security deposit by destroying the security deposit cheque or
refunding the balance due within two weeks after the end of the rental period.
5 Subject to Clause
2 and 3 above, in the event of a cancellation, refunds of amounts paid will be
made if the Owner is able to relet the Property, and any expenses or losses
incurred in so doing will be deducted from the refundable amount. The Client is strongly recommended to
arrange a comprehensive travel insurance policy (including cancellation cover)
and to have full cover for the partys personal belongings, public liability,
etc, since these are not covered by the Owners insurance.
6 The rental period shall commence at 4.00 pm on the first
day and finish at 10.00 am on the last day.
The Owner shall not be obliged to offer the accommodation before the
time stated and the Client shall not be entitled to remain in occupation after
the time stated.
7 The maximum number to reside in the Property must not
exceed 4 adults unless the Owner has given written permission.
8
The Client agrees to be a considerate tenant
and to take good care of the Property
and to leave it in a
clean and tidy condition at the end of
the rental period. Although a final
clean is included in our prices,
the Owner reserves the right to make a retention from the security
deposit to cover additional cleaning
costs if the Client leaves the Property in an unacceptable
condition. The Client also agrees not
to act
in any way which would cause disturbance to those resident in
neighbouring properties.
9
The Client shall report to the Owners agent
without delay any defects in the Property or breakdown in
the equipment, plant, machinery or appliances in the Property. Arrangements for repair and/or
replacement will be made as soon as possible.
10
The Owner shall not be liable to the
Client:
For any temporary defect or stoppage in the supply
of public services to the Property, nor in respect of any equipment, plant,
machinery or appliance in the Property or garden.
For any loss, damage or injury which is the result
of adverse weather conditions, riot, war, strikes, accident or other matters.
For any loss, damage or inconvenience caused to or
suffered by the Client if the Property shall be destroyed or substantially
damaged before the start of the rental period and in any such event, the Owner
shall, within seven days of notification to the Client, refund to the Client
all sums previously paid in respect of the rental period.
11
Under
no circumstances shall the Owners liability to the Client exceed the amount
paid to the Owner for the rental period.
This
contract shall be governed by English Law in every particular, including
formation and interpretation and shall be deemed to have been made in
England. Any proceedings arising out of
or in connection with this contract may be brought in any Court of competent
jurisdiction in England.
We had an idyllic time at Tremolat, visiting old haunts and generally lazing around. By the way did you know that there are red squirrels and deer in the orchard! I will have no hesitation in recommending Villa Marcelle to our friends who may be thinking of visiting that part of France.
(John and Sandra Luscombe 15 September 2001)
Thank you for letting us use your lovely house in Tremolat. We had an excellent holiday. We wished we could have brought the view from the terrace home too!!
(Janet and Alan Golden 22 September 2001)
Firstly can I say how much we
enjoyed staying in your villa and exploring the area. It was a brilliant mix
between relaxation for the adults, freedom for the children and varied and
interesting things to see and do. And seeing the deer in the orchard, first
thing in the morning was an added bonus.
As a consequence we would like to
book your villa, if this is available, for the same week next summer
